Safety and the NBN


The elephant in the room for any planned Australian Government rollout is safety. Is the NBN going to be any different from recent programs marred by safety? Recently TEX staff have witnessed at least 2 examples of fibre contractors working in the public domain without exercising the most basic safety requirements for the work they were doing. The first involved workers in Sydney preparing to lay fibre, using a jack hammer with no hearing protection. The second, involved a solo worker, in a major Melbourne CBD location, splicing fibre optic cables with no eye protection.
