NBN Co. buys Austar spectrum

NBN Co announced on Friday that it would be purchasing Austar's 2.3Ghz and 3.4GHz spectrum for delivery of its high speed fixed wireless broadband to regional Australians. The deal worth $120 million is made up of $58 million for the subsidiary that currently holds the spectrum and a further $62 million for the assignment of the subsidiaries debt. Austar welcomes the deal as it now means that the company will focus its efforts on the content that it will be able to deliver to a larger number of regional households via the NBN Co. infrastructure. NBN Co. are equally enthusiastic about the new arrangement as it provides them with a significant start to their wireless rollout.
